Ocean Literacy

Ocean Literacy informs people on essential principles of the ocean and allows them to make informed decision affecting the ocean and its inhabitants. Our efforts have the goal of raising awareness on ocean literacy.

Ocean Literacy – India

This current project aims to raise awareness on ocean literacy in government schools in the Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We are working with an Indian based non-profit to integrate the workbook. This project is in progress!

These worksheets aim to educate and inspire the students of government schools in Telangana, India to inspire students to produce innovative solutions to reduce ocean pollution. We hope that the increase in education will show throughout their adulthood and help preserve this environment.

Ocean Literacy – Honduras

Protecting our Reefs: Ocean Literacy Curriculum

From tourism to food, in the Bay Islands of Honduras, the economy thrives on the ocean. In this environment, it is critical that students understand their local environment. We worked with a local non-profit to develop ocean literacy worksheets. Currently, the worksheets will be rolled out to the Preschool and Kindergarten grade levels, ages 5-7. For more accessibility, the worksheets have been created in Spanish and English for the different schools.

These worksheets aim to educate and inspire the students of the Bay Islands to make a positive impact and limit their harmful actions. We hope that the increase in education will show throughout their adulthood and help preserve this environment.

Diver Pamphlet

In an effort to help preserve the ocean and marine life in the Bay Islands of Honduras, we created pamphlets. These pamphlets aim to raise awareness for visiting tourists on the DOs and DON’Ts when diving or snorkeling. We realized that many dive centers on the island verbally explained these rules but did not list them out for people to recheck and completely understand. With these pamphlets, tourists are able to read and re-read the “Golden Rules.”

These pamphlets were dispersed to four diving centers on the Bay Islands locally, and we plan to continue to expand them to other areas.

Arabic Diver Pamphlet

In another effort to help preserve the ocean and marine life in the town of Hurghada, Egypt, we created pamphlets in Arabic and English, and distributed a laminated copy to a dive-center.

These pamphlets were dispersed to a diving center in Egypt, and we hope to expand them to other areas.
